2 Weeks and Change

Celeste is now 15 days old. She often pants like a little puppy, and her breath is indescribably sweet smelling. This morning after feeding her, I stuck my nose almost in her mouth and gulped up her exhalations. I just kept thinking about how unaware she is of herself and how she's this interesting balance of helpless and willful at the same time.

Some new developments: Celeste has sensitive skin and seems prone to rashes. They look painful to us but we've been assured that it's all a part of the process of adjusting to life outside of an aqueous environment. We've also learned that she needs as much sleep as we can coax her into getting or else she gets cranky, anxious, and unable to fall asleep. Life here is slow and quiet as we pack for our move on Thursday away from Pittsburgh. More on that later. But the combination of calm and chaos is exhausting. Also, Celeste is strong! When she's resting on our chests she grunts and furrows her little brow and stiffens her legs and lifts her huge head up off of our chests. It makes us so proud of her.

Here are some new pictures of Celeste taking a bath yesterday, of Celeste and Peter enjoying a nap under the blanket that Faith (aka Topper) knit for her, and of Celeste meeting her sweet Aunt Siri. I know that Celeste will love her sweet, sensitive, creative Aunt Siri (and her husband Curtis) and it was such a treat to see the three of them together.

  4. so i'm JUST NOW reading these comments. sorry. we had the most irrational computer set-up for all of august and i'm now finally on the ball.
i hope you enjoyed the close up of peter's dozen or so strands of corn-silky chest hair. thanks for reminding me of the good old days (and that super strange person at bradd's). i'm praying that simon + celeste will one day = love. they can smooth cortizone cream on each other's rashes.
